Weekend Wellness: An Easy Getaway To Guerneville
The work weeks certainly are busy and by the time we get to the weekend, we are in much need of some TLC and rejuvenation. That's why easy getaways are one of my favorite things to do to maintain my balance and wellness.
Living in California we are truly blessed to have so many charming little towns and natural wonders to visit. In the San Francisco Bay Area alone, we have convenient access to Lake Tahoe, Yosemite, Big Sur, wine country and the breathtaking northern coastline along Hwy 1 towards Mendocino.
Last weekend, my husband and I visited laid back Guerneville to recharge our batteries. We stayed at the hip Boon Hotel+Spa in a gorgeous tent perfectly cozy for 2. Each morning, a lovely little breakfast tray was brought to our tent with a freshly brewed pot of coffee (and a big warm smile from our friendly hostess). The pool is a great place to relax, read a book and get some therapeutic sunshine.
During the day, you can explore the small, colorful and somewhat quirky Main Street of Guerneville. Here's what I did and thoroughly enjoyed: start off with a morning yoga class at Riverbed Yoga to really unwind and stretch out any tight spots you may have. Then walk on over to Big Bottom Market for a soothing cup of tea and a light energizing snack. After, explore Commerce Fine Goods, the modern fashion and home decor shop in the beautifully restored Guerneville Bank Club. This is the place to take home something special from your trip.
When you have worked up an appetite at the end of the day, ride one of the complimentary beach cruisers a short distance into town for drinks and dinner. El Barrio makes yummy cocktails (try my favorite: the manhattan) and Boon Eat+Drink is the place for a healthy dinner (you must have the brussel sprouts and the warm calamari salad - mmm).
Other good eats in town include Agriculture Public House at Dawn Ranch, serving locally sourced organic produce, sustainable fish, and local meats. Hot tip: sit outside on the deck on a nice evening to enjoy the surrounding greenery and the fresh air. Back on Main Street, Seaside Metal Oyster Bar, sister restaurant of Bar Crudo in SF, is a seafood only restaurant and quite a happening spot to enjoy a meal.
The great thing about Guerneville is it is close to the coastline and wine country, so a visit to Jenner and Healdsburg are super easy. *When heading to Healdsburg be sure to drive along the spectacular Sweetwater Springs Road from Boon Hotel+Spa, and stop at Shed for a mouthwatering lunch, tasty homemade kombucha, and browse in the store for some modern homewares or tasty goodies. *After a swim at the beach in Jenner, kick back, grab a coffee + a snack, and soak up the beautiful scenery at Aquatica Cafe. This easy weekend getaway will provide everything you want and need to feel amazing all over again.
